Origins

Wine has a history of over 7,000 years in Moldova, dating back to the Eneolithic period when wild vines grew in these lands. The Cucuteni-Trypillia culture was one of the first to "domesticate" the vine, and the Greeks introduced "industrial" winemaking. By the 14th century, exports began. After joining the Russian Empire, winemaking expanded, and today Moldova is a major wine producer and exporter.
